Session Summary
The Crown Estate recently awarded leases for marine energy within the Pentland Firth and Orkneys Waters totaling 1.2GW, anticipated to be installed by 2020. Apart from the well documented technological challenges, there are many logistical challenges that are associated with mass scale marine energy deployment. This session will aim to explore the key challenges posed by grid connection, obtaining project site consent, port availability, cumulative effects (environmental and resource), navigation, H&S, O&M & infrastructure developments whilst highlighting potential enabling actions.
