Chair and Speaker: Jacopo Moccia, Regulatory Affairs Advisor, EWEA At EWEA, Jacopo Moccia works closely with the national associations and Member States to help the European wind industry present a more co-ordinated and effective voice across Europe. He is very involved in the national application of the EU directive on renewable energy sources. Prior to joining EWEA, Jacopo was advisor in the cabinet of a Belgian minister and worked on EU policy issues for another European industry organisation. He speaks French, English, Italian and Spanish. |

Speaker: Terje Gjengedal, Senior Vice President/ R&D Director, Statnett SF The Future North Sea Grid - Challenges and opportunities The role of the North Sea grid is discussed in many conferences and from different perspectives. How will the structure and design be and how will integration of renewables such as offshore wind power and other sources be outlined. Technology development is needed to ensure a proper design and integration, and HVDC Voltage Source Converter technology will be crusial for such a grid. In the presentation different questions and challenges will be addressed such as technology, system design, system operation and also the discussion on SmartGrid solutions will be addressed versus the North Sea grid. |

Speaker: Dr. Jun Qiao, Strategy Manager, Energy Technologies Offshore Wind - Challenges and Opportunities in the UK UK has one of the best offshore wind resources in the world. Offshore wind could contribute significantly to achieve the UK 2020 renewable targets. Although offshore environment presents huge challenges, there are opportunities to reduce the cost of electricity through innovation. Biography Dr. Jun Qiao is Strategy Manager for wind energy at the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI), a UK based company formed from global industries and the UK Government, which bring together projects and partnerships that create affordable, reliable, clean energy for heat, power and transport. Jun has been involved in research and product development for over 20 years with a wide range of experience from nuclear reactor cooling to land vehicle aerodynamics. Jun graduated from Dalian University of Science and Technology in 1985 with a BEng in Ship Building Engineering. He received his PhD from Loughborough University of Technology in 1990. Jun is an honorary reader at the University of Birmingham. |
