Chair: Colin Morgan, Director – Offshore Wind Engineering,GL Garrad Hassan Colin Morgan works within the Offshore Wind Engineering business of GL Garrad Hassan, based in the UK. He has a mechanical engineering background and has worked in the wind energy industry for 22 years. In this time his work has included: wind turbine aerodynamic and structural analysis and design; software development and support; research into wake effects; wind and energy resource assessment; banks due diligence; construction management; and wind turbine inspection. For the past ten years he has led GLGH work on offshore wind projects within a multi-disciplinary department, addressing all technical aspects of offshore wind farms. He sits on various industry bodies including the Renewable UK Offshore Wind Strategy Group, Offshore Wind Delivery Group, the EU Technology Platform for Wind Energy (TPWind) and the EWEA Offshore Wind Industry Group. |

Speaker: Gareth Craft, Technology Manager,The Crown Estate Gareth Craft started his career in consultancy working as a wind resource analyst at Garrad Hassan for 5 years. Here he managed the wind resource team for projects in Italy. Gareth then work in wind farm development with BP Alternative Energy where he set-up and managed the wind resource team for Europe and Asia. This role involved wind resource projects in China, India, Turkey and offshore wind projects in UK and Germany. Gareth now works at The Crown Estate as a Technology manager advising the business on offshore wind technology. |

Speaker: Leo Enrico Jensen, Manager, Wind Power Analysis Department, DONG Energy Leo E. Jensen has a Master of Science from Aalborg University (1989) in energy technology and fluid flow. After graduation he joined Elsamprojekt, where he worked for 10 years as a specialist in wind resource assessment, wind farm layout, rotor blade design and aeroelastic load calculations on wind. After that he worked 3 years for LM Glasfiber (now LM Wind Power Blades) on aerodynamics and rotor blade design software in the R&D department. He then moved back to Elsamproject (now called Techwise and later Elsam Engineering and now DONG Energy) where he is now the manager of the Wind Power Analysis Department. |

Speaker: Andy Oldroyd, Technical Director, Oldbaum Services Andy Oldroyd is the Technical Director of Oldbaum Services, a leading wind energy consultancy company providing tailor made data acquisition programmes. Working in both the onshore and offshore sectors, Andy has worked to provide solutions using traditional met masts and more advanced techniques such as SoDAR and LiDAR. Andy and Oldbaum are also looking at Buoy mounted LiDAR solutions for early stage data acquisition offshore. Andy’s main focus is the quality control and traceability of wind speed data to ease confidence in the acquired data for use throughout the wind engineering process. With this in mind, Andy has worked to standardise best practice for the use of Remote Sensing in the wind industry and the process for the adoption of new techniques to reduce user uncertainty. Andy is the Coordinator of the 7 million euro EC FP7 programme NORSEWInD, which utilises met masts, LiDAR and satellite technologies to create an offshore wind atlas for the Baltic, Irish and North Sea areas. The resultant database will be a unique resource to offshore wind developers, offering high accuracy, high spatial resolution atlases based on physical datasets. |
