Programme
Keynote Speaker: Patrick Harvie, MSP will keynote in the opening session of the conference on Day 1.
The conference will explore a variety of issues of interest to small and medium wind turbine manufacturers and installers, from wind resource assessment and planning to certification and project financing. While the conference is aimed at the small wind experts, the event will provide a valuable opportunity to learn more about this growing wind market segment for everyone interested, including consultants, finance community and landowners.
Alongside the conference sessions, we will have interactive seminars catered for small and medium wind installers. The seminars will offer the insights on the latest developments in installation practices and standards, and provide the opportunity to share your experiences.
The exhibition hall will feature small and medium wind turbine models, turbine components and more. Over 30 companies active in the sector will be on display.
Small & Medium Wind Turbines
The size and a type of a turbine to suit best one's needs largely depends on the energy demand, budget and the size of the area of land available. However, in broad terms, turbines up to 50kW in size would normally be installed by individual households or smaller farms; while medium wind turbines (50 - 500kW) would be more suitable for those with larger areas of land, e.g. farmers, landowners, communities or businesses.
- Small wind turbines: Turbines with the swept area up to 200m2 in accordance to the International Standard (IEC 61400-2). Or turbines up to 50kW that fall under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
- Medium wind turbines: Turbines with the swept area of 1000m2 in accordance to the Medium Wind Standard being drafted by RenewableUK, or turbines up to 500kW.
Feed in Tariffs (FITs)
Feed in Tariffs were introduced in April 2010 to stimulate the take up of small scale renewable generation and provide guaranteed payments to individuals, business and community. The scheme provides attractive returns on investment for small and medium wind projects and has been the key driver for the wind market growth in the UK. The conference sessions will assess how the Feed-in Tariff have shaped the wind market in the UK and explore the implications of the first Comprehensive Feed-in Tariff Review.
